Target audience The population of Arkhangelsk and the public health workers in the region
Summary Cross-sectional study of the population of Arkhangelsk to evaluate risk factors for CVD with spesific emphasis on life-style factors like alcohol drinking, smoking, physical activity, diet.
Background In a sample of 4000 subjects and an autopsy study we have discribed potential risk factors for CVD. This topic needs further elaboration in a representative unselected population sample. At the same time it establish a data base for MPH from ISPHA and upcomimg PhD-candidates which we already have taken through the formal research school in Tromsø.
Objectives To enhance the competence in understanding the relation between lifestyle factors and diseases in the population, to increase research competence among medical professionals, and to render the possibility of modern research among young PhD- and MPH- candidates on this topic.
Specific objectives/indicators To increase life expectancy in the population, and to establish preventive measures for coronary heart disease and alcohol abuse.
Results Higher competence among russian colleagues, effective preventive measures and increased life expectancy
