Summary COPD is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide and related to tobacco smoking. COPD is an increasing problem in Russia due to haevy smoking habits. A three year project is proposed with focus on primary health care including prevention antismoking measures and training on diagnosis and treatment of COPD.
Background Filha (Finnish Lung Health Assiciation) has a long history of cooperation in the Murmansk Region. The Health Committee of Murmansk proposed a COPD project with focus on prevention and primary Health care in 2005. According to a baseline survey in 2007, the COPD situation is difficult in the region.
Objectives Improved health in the Murmansk region by reducing morbidity and mortality of COPD.
Specific objectives/indicators Decrease of COPD incidence and prevalence. Decrease of mortality and morbidity. Less youth starting smoking.
Results Statistical reports on COPD incidence, prevalence, mortality and morbidity.
