Summary The Medical Academy of Postgraduate studies (MAPS) wants to develop a decentralized retraining program in family medicine and to recruit more local general practices for the recidency training in family medicine. This requires new teaching aids. By translating into Russian a manual used for decentralized, groupbased training in family medicine in Norway, teachers in family medicine, local tutors for decentralized training groups and trainees in all training programs for family medicine will have a teaching and learning aid which would increase both quality and quantity in this training. The project is composed of translation, cultural and educational adjustment and printing of the Norwegian manual, presentations of the Norwegian training program and visits to Norwegian training institutions for teachers and tutors in MAPS family medicine training programs. The project is based on project PHC 035, in which piloting of decentralized retraining has shown the need for new teaching aids.
Background The Russian national policy on capacity building in primary care calls for new ways of training and retraining physicians into family medicine. Capacity at the central training institutions is limited, being a new professional field to develop. Many potential recruits to such training are working decentralized with limited opportunities to attend centralized training.
