Summary
  • Preparing and publishing of the guidelines for prevention, control, management and treatment of communicable diseases
  • Development of training program for primary health cares providers on communicable diseases.
  • Training of 6 trainers who will be facilitators of seminars on teaching of handling of communicable diseases in PHC.
  • Organization of the 4 countrywide conferences and 12 problem oriented teaching seminars-workshops leading by 6 special trainers.

  • Preparing and publishing a main scientific report about the results of project implementation in the journal "Public Health".

  • Background Lithuanian Government program includes primary health care (PHC) as a very important priority for future development of health care system. Taking into account that strengthening of primary health care is based on newly created institution of general practitioners education of these specialists in the field of communicable diseases becomes on of the most serious tasks. In this context improving of the professional level of general practitioners of Lithuania is becoming very important and significant part of health care reform.
    Objectives This project is directed to the development of primary health care system in Lithuania through education of primary health care providers in field of communicable diseases. Under the supervision of experts from Scandinavian countries will be developed training programs, guidelines for primary health care specialists for better control and handling of communicable diseases and decreasing morbidity. The behavior of the communicable diseases management in Lithuanian primary health care will be determined, evaluated and compared with the European States data. Conclusions and lessons from the project will be shared among Lithuanian general practitioners and other PHC providers during seminars, workshops and conferences. The planed duration of the project is from 2002 to 2004.
